It's wednesday, feb 13th and it is snowing out!

We're having rain and sleet and snow. It's back to snow at the moment and supposed to continue until about 8 pm today. YIKES!  So we are snuggly snowed in here (after a full day of shoveling, that is!) School is canceled and I'm listening to very funny things.

Here is what came in my inbox this morning: it's a short video of this guy singing "I will eat raw" to the tune of "I will survive" and it's very clever and silly. I saw that he had a link to other videos and audio clips and I clicked through them. There was one called Dad's Gigantic Prostrate and I'm slightly embarrassed to write that I couldn't stop laughing when I first heard it - it is soooo silly and the singing is so off key - it's just hysterical. So here are the links for your viewing/listening pleasure on this snowy snowy day:

Well, here's a brief update:

We had a WONDERFUL and fun workshop last night at Hunger Mountain Coop - we did the mint chocolate chip milkshake and we made seconds and thirds. It was very fun - we were giggling and laughing the whole time. I am always so grateful and pleased to do these little workshops - I always have a good time and I love to see the regulars as well as the newbies who come in to check things out.  Check out the coop's calendar for future raw food workshops. I believe we'll be doing raw breakfasts next month.

For those of you wondering what little special something you'd like to give for valentine's day - the God and Goddess Butters make a perfect gift for such an occasion! They are currently on sale at Sweet Clover Market in Essex Junction and City Market in Burlington. AND I just heard today from Hunger Mountain Coop that they will be carrying them very soon! YIPPPEEE!!!! If you aren't near those stores, let me know about your favorite healthy food store so's I can make an appointment with their buyers to give them samples. Feel free to order them online as well at http://www.vt-fiddle.com - click on the market link. Or email me and I'll hook you up.

• Elainie is hosting the potluck this month - YAY! If you'd like to attend, please email me or Elainie for directions. The potluck is scheduled for Thursday, February 21 from 6-8 pm in Richmond. Let us know who's coming please. You can RSVP on the meetup site as well.

I've had some requests for classes. Would you like an introductory class to raw foods? Would you like a sprouting and dehydrating class for raw foods? If so, please email me with dates and times that work for you so we can schedule away.

Matt's nut milk bag career is also going well. We're selling them now in Canada, California to Cafe Gratitude and Raw Spirit as well as to individuals across the country. Yippy-i-ay! Need a nut milk or sprouting bag? Look no further dudes! Matt is constantly getting feedback that is very positive and he's improving his design and efficiency as well. (He's Mr Efficient)

I'M HERE FOR YOUR RAW FOOD NEEDS...

Please call me or email me if you have any bulk foods or raw food needs. I have appliances and super foods/supplements as well as bulk foods like carob powder, cacao powder, nibs, butter, bee pollen and nuts and seeds, to name a few. On my list is to update that website more and more each month but in the meantime, please call me at 223-2111 or email me at linda@vt-fiddle.com for anything you may or may not see on the website. I'm getting 2 sizes in of the VitaMineral Green and I have other Healthforce Nutritional items. Need a VitamixSpiral Slicer or NUT MILK BAG? :-D

On that same page you can listen or watch it as well. It's excellent.  He talks about everything including the localvore movement,  the fossil fuels used in transportation of food, processed food. Everything. This looks like a great book.

In Defense of Food: Author, Journalist Michael Pollan on Nutrition, Food Science and the American Diet

Acclaimed author and journalist Michael Pollan argues that what most Americans are consuming today is not food but “edible food-like substances.” His previous book, The Omnivore’s Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals, was named one of the ten best books of 2006 by the New York Times and the Washington Post. His latest book, just published, is called In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto. [includes rush transcript]

I'm listening right now to today's Democracy Now and there is an AWESOME interview.
You can read the transcript here:

ok and now for that recipe

Today seems like a cookie making day although I'm currently making fruit leather with all my over ripened fruit!

2 cups sunflower seeds, soaked 6 - 8 hours and rinsed
2 Fuji apples
2 large bananas
1/2 C honey dates
1 t vanilla
1 t cinnamon
1 cup raisins
1 cup walnuts, soaked 6 - 8 hours and chopped

Process sunflower seeds, apples, bananas, and dates through a Champion Juicer using the solid plate. In a large bowl, mix dough with vanilla, cinnamon, raisins, and walnuts. Spoon dough on a dehydrator tray with a teflex sheet, and form into small, round cookies. Dehydrate at 105° for 4 - 6 hours, turn cookies over and remove teflex sheet. Continue dehydrating for 4 - 6 hours, or until desired moisture is obtained.
