RAWhoy there mateys!

Hoping you are well and happy. If not, start eating more raw foods! ;-)

Don't you love how life happens? Back in April I was asked to do a little talk for some dietitians with a specific request to talk about type 1 diabetes and raw food. I was compiling information for the talk and was trying to get a hold of a woman I met a year ago from CO who is a type 1 diabetic doing incredibly well on raw foods. I didn't hear from her in time so went to a google search. Aimee Perrin's name came up and I saw her website: "oh goody!" I thought, "she's in Maine!" In my search, I saw this article that she wrote for the Diabetes Health magazine. Turned out, one of the dietitians had also found and read that article so that was also cool. Anyhow, I emailed Aimee and we talked a bit on the phone. I asked to be kept posted with her latest and she sent an email saying David Wolfe would be in town...

Well, I just got back from the David Wolfe weekend with my friend, Sabrina. We had a BLAST! So awesome. We talked, we listened, we asked questions, we met people into raw food as much - if not more - than we are, we laughed and I got a little misty-eyed.... I was trying to figure out a silly RAW word to express my gratitude but as of yet, nothing phenomenal has popped in my head (gRAWtitude?). When it does, I'll let you know. Anyway, we had fun. David is a pleasure to watch and listen to. I told him I had read one of his books years ago and didn't even finish it, closed it up and didn't have much to say or do with regards to him. But as life so miraculously happens, I was ready to learn more about superfooods and this is when I got that email from Aimee... Anyway, I told him I was ever so grateful to have gone with this whim to attend this event this weekend because I *loved* what I heard him talk about. He's doing good things and I'm looking forward to more times and opportunities to see/hear him again. His little crew of "raw food superheros" were also great and helpful the whole weekend. The Perrins, Aimee and Denny, were super hosts. Denny was warm and welcoming and Aimee was busy getting fan-ditty-tastic food on the table for us to eat. Who could have asked for a better weekend!? Thanks Maine raw food people! :-)

Another potentially interesting thing to watch on the boob tube if you have TV: My friend Donna emailed me this this morning - her brother will somehow be mentioned in it, I think, which is exciting! (think wheatgrass) This looks to be very interesting and strikes me personally to want to watch it because my mom died of cancer 12 years ago and that was an event that changed my life (as was the death 2 months after my mom of my "surrogate dad", my dear friend's dad, of complications due to a life with diabetes.) Watch the trailer and if you have TV or cable:

raw food recipe of the week

Low Glycemic Breakfast Cereal
Here's a recipe from that article (mentioned above) in Diabetes Health by Aimee Perrin

1 T flax oil
1 T flax seeds
1 T hemp seeds
1 tsp maca powder
2 tsp shredded coconut, unsweetened
1 tsp raw cacao nibs

Salt & sweeten with stevia to taste, then mix thoroughly in bowl.
Linda's note: This cereal will get you where you want to go and then some! :-)

You remember how to make nut milk, right?

1 cup of raw almonds or nuts/seeds of your choice. Put them in a bowl, cover them with filtered water and let them sit on the counter overnight. When you wake up in the morning, drain them, rinse them and put them in your Vitamix. Add 3 cups of water and whatever sweetener you like to use: 1 tsp. honey, or 2 or so dates, or a tiny squirt of liquid stevia, or 1 tsp of agave... Buzz it in the blender for 30 seconds or so. Turn it off. Pour the nut milk through one of our RAWsome nut milk bags to strain the mash out of the milk. ET VOILA! Delicious, nutritious, alive nut milk! Pour some of this on that breakfast cereal above and eat with lots of love in your heart. This is worth living for!

Enjoy RAWdient health!
Linda
