RAWhoy there mateys!

Geetings and raw salutations!

Well we had a fun potluck last week in Richmond and I got myself a new nickname! I was saying that I wished my name was something that could be easily made into a raw metaphor - so like if my name was Rebecca, I could call myself RAWbecca for fun. Well, Heinz suggested I call myself "Linda RAW-lover" instead of Linda Wooliever! I LOVE IT!

Anyway, the potluck was great. It's usually the case that the host/ess makes lots of food for the potlucks and Elainie really outdid herself. She made this phenomenal seaweed salad, this zucchini dish that was filled with a surprisingly light tasting nut cheesie filling and topped with a raw marinara sauce. For desserts, she made a chocolate mousse pie and a key lime pie that was out of this world! Jillian brought a beautiful RAW slaw, I brought crackers and zucchini hummus, Donna brought these awesome apple cookies. Brian brought cinnamon buns that were tastier to me than the baked version. But the best part was the conversations (to me anyway) - of course we start talking about raw food and what's in the dishes and then we get into all kinds of interesting topics. Always fun. Thank you, Elainie and Heinz for opening up your family & home to us. Next month's potluck is here in Worcester and I'm always open to have them in other places if you'd like to host.

recipe for this week

Fruit Kebobs with Raw Yogurt
By Emily and Linda Wooliever

Well, my daughter pulled out one of her little cook books and looked at a recipe that appealed to her. The kids aren't eating dairy and the recipe called for yogurt. Determined Emily took out a bowl and put it on the table. She found some fruit that was ripe to use and began washing and cutting it and putting it in the bowl. I was cleaning up my own mess (I made my famous chilli) and by the time I got to her she was all into it. Sam, my son, came by and he wanted to help so he cut a kiwi and added it to the bowl. Then they both cut up bananas. They kept talking about the fact that they don't have yogurt. I looked at the recipe and I said, "Do you want me to make something that's like yogurt?" They said, "Sure!" So I pulled out my vitamix and made a raw yogurt. Here's the recipe:

Fruit kebobs

ripe fruit: plums, peaches, nectarines, kiwi, banana. (Or whatever you have on hand)

Raw yogurt

1 cup raw cashews
1 cup frozen mangos (fresh would work too)
1 tsp honey
1 tiny squeeze of lemon
1 1/2 cups water (start with a cup and add more if necessary)

In the Vita-Mix, blend everything until smooth. Pour in a bowl.

Emily decorated the yogurt with more sliced bananas but wished she had strawberries. We skewered the fruit onto clean "stickebob toothpicks" as Emily called them. We all ate and enjoyed a very awesome snack and I thanked Emily for coming up with the good idea to make that today. She is very full of great ideas!

Here's 2 pictures of the fruit kebobs. Make this with your kids, or grandkids or neices or nephews. Or just for yourself. OK?

Enjoy RAWsome health!
Linda
