Oct 12th Potluck info, Class info and some resource links

Hi all!

I had a fun workshop last night at HMC! Everyone loved the applesauce recipe particularly when I topped it with the macadamia nut creme! YUM! So good! Maybe one day we'll do that recipe again for those that missed it.

Anyway, wanted to send out some info on the haps for October since it's just around the corner. Can't believe it! Also below find some information on more book & web recommendations as well on links to broccoli sprouts...

The October 12th Raw Food Potluck (Thursday) goes from 6-8 pm and is being held at Stacy's house in Worcester.  As you follow RT 12 North to get into Worcester (8 miles north of Montpelier) you'll take a right on Calais Road. You'll drive on calais road for about .3 miles and make a right onto Gould Hill Road. Stacy's house is the first house on the right. It's a yellow farm house. Bring a raw food dish to share - otherwise it's free and fun.

Next month's 1-Hour Raw Food Workshop at Hunger Mountain Coop is going to be Raw Baklava. HMC 1-hour raw food workshop is scheduled  for October 11th (a Wednesday) from 6-7 pm. There will be a sign-up sheet soon so please sign up if interested. The cost of that workshop is $8 for members and $10 for non-members.

The Raw Food Demo that I'm having here in Worcester is scheduled for October 18th from 6:30 - 7:30. The recipe that we'll be learning is Broccomole and I'll have some other raw food items to eat this with. We'll be having this demo at 18 Worcester Village Road. Please call me to sign up! The cost for this demo is $10. (By the way, just to clarify: the coops and health food stores refer to these things as workshops and we in the raw food world refer to them as raw food demonstrations. So it's the same thing just different names.)

October 13-15 are the Level 1 and Level 2 Certification classes. A lot is taught about this way of living and eating so even if you aren't interested in being Certified by Alissa Cohen, you'll still benefit from taking the classes. For more information, please call or email me. These classes will also happen at 18 Worcester Village Road.

Where is 18 Worcester Village Road You Ask? Well we just closed on a cute little house next to the Town Hall right here in Worcester. We are planning to use this space for our office and can rent out office space upstairs to other Worcester or nearby people who want high-speed internet and office space. Please call us for rates and availability: 229-4496
I also plan to use the space for my art classes and raw food classes. Now that I have this space and as we progress, I hope to include more raw food basics classes such as: A Day in the Life of Raw Food where we'll cover a full day of recipes; a Sprouting class to cover how to sprout and when to sprout and how much to sprout so that you can continually eat this way; a Dehydration class to go over several types of dehydrated recipes so that you feel confident in your own ability to make raw foods for yourself; and an Introduction to Raw Foods Class. We'll have fun!
We're also planning on using this space for community endeavors such as a buying club to deliver to us here in Worcester, local artisans and farmers to be able to have a place to sell their stuff, local clubs to be able to hold their meetings and events, community bulletin boards. And the grand plan is to have a weekend cafe for local music and gatherings. Of course raw food will play a fun part in all of this.  If you have ideas or interest in helping, we'd love to hear from you.  More information will follow as we progress.

As always, if you like what you are reading, super! I'm happy to share. If at any time you'd like to not receive these emails, just let me know. If you are interested in any of the services or classes I provide, please call me at 229-4496 or email me. I'm flexible and happy to accommodate. Please feel free to forward this email to those friends of your whom you think would be interested. Thanks again!

website resources for raw food

Here are some good website resources to get you started learning about raw food.
Ann Wigmore
Hippocrates Institute
Alissa Cohen
Gabriel Cousens Tree of Life Rejevenation Ctr

Some books:  (I have most of these books if you'd like to borrow them. We can do a kind of library loan on them if you're interested.)
The Raw Truth by Jeffrey Safron,
Conscious Eating by Gabriel Cousens, MD
Rainbow Green Live Food Cuisine by Gabriel Cousens, MD
pH Miracle by Dr Robert Young - this is a primarily raw food book but allows for some cooked grains. Robert Young recommends a 70-80% raw food diet.
Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon (this is the book that has raw meat, raw dairy and raw egg yolk recipes as well as fermented recipes and some raw vegetarian recipes - as well as some cooked recipes. I personally eat a raw vegan diet but there are some who will benefit from this.)
Hooked on Raw by Rhio - Rhio's book was the first that I read. There are good recipes in here. She apparently travels around the country and so describes how she maintains raw while travelling.

Sprouts:
The anti-cancer sprouts that Brian Clements of the Hippocrates Institute recommends are: broccoli sprouts, alfalfa & clover together.
